A selection of some of the many talks, walks, outings and other events that we arranged during 2011.

19th November 2012 – The Coconut Shipwreck
An illustrated talk given by Julianne O Donoghue, Archaeologist, who led the team of experts on this recent dive just off the West Cork coast.

22nd October 2012 – History of Bantry Town
An illustrated Talk given by Hazel Vickery which included many old photographs of townscapes from the Vickery Collection.

19th August 2012 – Carriganass Castle and Kealkil Stone Circle
With Aine Brosnan, Archaeologist, dressed appropriately in a colourful 16th century costume, coinciding with the era of the castle outlined the history of this recently conserved building.
We also visited Kealkil Stone Circle where we learned it is not just a stone circle but much much more. Aine’s archaeological talk here was absolutely fascinating. This event formed part of our celebration of National Heritage Week 2012.

14th July 2012 – Historical Tour of Coomhola
Led by Seamus Crowley, which included the ironworks, dams, a visit to Cadogan’s house, local archaeological site and the reputed burial place of Fionn MacCúil’s hound.

30th June 2012 – Gougane Barra Tour
Led by Eileen Lucey, including a Talk on the Oratory, Tour of the Cells (including St Finbarr’s) and visit to Graveyard where some well-known people are buried – and of course Ansty and the Tailor.

24 February 2012 – Former BHAS Outings
Showing of two different DVDs provided by Mr. Brendan Vaughan of footage of some former outings held by Bantry Historical and Archaeological Society.
